The Flecker Botanic Gardens and Tanks Community Arts centre provide an important facility for the community: hosting a range of displays, events and education on the Wet Tropics environment and community issues. The redevelopment by Cairns City Council provides a master plan with room for expansion, and seeks to combine the functions into an integrated precinct. The main architectural elements include a new administration facility and visitor centre which has been designed to create a hub space reflecting and building on the heritage of the Tanks, and a series of node spaces creating small focal points for activities around the precinct.
