The Esplanade North and Parklands project is a continuation of the existing redeveloped area around the Lagoon/ Harbour delivering links to other areas in Cairns. The project brief was to create a quality open public space providing informal active and passive recreational areas. Features of the development include the extension of pedestrian and bike paths, extensive landscaping, new field sports areas, a skate park, volleyball courts and associated amenities.

New bus shelters with facilities are to be developed adjacent to the Lagoon parking.
