Sustainability

CA Architects is committed to producing sustainable architecture through applying the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Design ( ESD ).

Successful implementation of these elements of design is not restricted by the scale of the building or the size of the budget as demonstrated in the two vastly differing examples below:
  • 4,500m 2 NLA William McCormack Place, Australia's first office building to be awarded a 5 star ABGR (now NABERS) energy rating.
  • McClintock residence, a small one bedroom residence outside Kuranda relying on solar electricity and rainwater.

Designing to take advantage of breezes and orientating the building on-site depending on sun angles reduces the need and energy loads of air-conditioning. We aim to use alternative energies and can demonstrate that good design, sustainable homes and affordability are not mutually exclusive.

However, ESD goes beyond energy efficiency. The process also involves looking at locally sourced materials, renewable or recyclable resources and more significantly, re-use of buildings – it is crucial to ensure that the building does not become outdated and of limited use in 10 or 20 years.

We are presently designing William McCormack Place Stage 2 consisting of 9,400m2 NLA which we have submitted for a Green Star rating, as well as renovating an office building in Cairns which has been awarded a 4 Star Green Star - Office Design v2 Certified Rating representing 'Best Practice'.
In addition to our environmentally sustainable design approach, In addition to our environmentally sustainable design approach, we can guide clients through Green Star building assessments process - fast becoming an important part of the design process in Australia.

Our expertise maximises the environmental performance of our buildings whilst complimenting our unique architectural aesthetic.
