Townsville, Far North Queensland
The project builds on earlier master planning investigations, testing wider site objectives while prioritising the critical operational and civic elements required for the long-term development of the precinct.
Organised around a central circulation spine spanning multiple levels, the building supports the operational requirements of a large and contemporary police facility. The planning accommodates a range of specialised units, including the Criminal Investigation Unit, Tactical Crime Squad and Police Link, while ensuring clear operational relationships and efficient movement throughout the building.
The architectural response balances the operational demands of the facility with its broader civic role within the community. A robust palette of materials and finishes, informed by operational requirements, ensures durability, longevity and ease of maintenance while reinforcing the building’s civic presence.
The building’s form and material expression also draw subtle reference from the surrounding landscape, including views to Mount Stuart and the character of the wider regional subtropical environment.
