Urban Design
The design team facilitated 12 focus group/one-on-one meetings and spoke to more than 100 residents about their aspirations for the future of the Park.
Additional research uncovered an obscure social history which became an inspiration for design elements throughout.
The design team responded with a plan which is sympathetic to the local climatic conditions, tourist movements and stakeholder desires for a cool space hosting a variety of activities and functions.
Artwork, arbours and street furniture were envisioned as storytelling elements inspired by the rich historic and social tapestry of Cloncurry, including the founding of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the unquenchable resolve of local woman Florence Clarke.
